Tennis
certainly is one of the most followed sports all over the world. Each
time a game is watched on TV, it appears to be an easy sport to
comprehend. After all, the players only run back and forth hitting the
ball. However, tennis really is not as simple as it looks.
Actually, tennis is much more difficult than it looks. Many amateurs
struggle for a long time to get their tennis game under control. You
might think that running around hitting balls is easy, but running
around such a big court requires tremendous amounts of energy and
stamina. And hitting the ball requires a ton of focus, strength and
precision to just get it to land in the other court and even more to
land it on the right spot. That is why, just like every other type of
sports, you can’t just be born good at tennis, you have to practice and
train hard in order to get better at it. And the best place to start is
with your tennis basics.
The following presents the basics of tennis, in brief:
• GAME: When playing you have to remember that tennis is NOT a
contact sport, so you are not allowed to hit your opponent when you
lose. It is may be played by two to a maximum of four depending on
whether it is for singles or doubles. Others may play tennis simply by
using a ball machine or by hitting a wall.
• SCORES: Tennis fanatics know that scoring is not just about
counting in sequence. It involves two systems of scoring, regular and
the no-ad scoring. Regular scoring counts points by 15 while the next
point is 30 and the third one 40 and finally the fourth point is game.
If the two players win equal points at a score of 40 in any tennis game,
the game is declared tied or a deuce. The next team or player who
scores is at an advantage and if a second point is obtained, they win.
No-ad scoring is a less complicated scoring system for tennis. Now the
points are counted in sequence, 1, 2, 3 and 4. As with the previous
system, if tied on the third point, the fourth point is called a sudden
death and who ever scores first, wins!
• EQUIPMENT: At the start, all you will need is a racquet, for
tennis of course, a tennis balls and a pair of good playing shoes. This
is all you will need to jumpstart your tennis-playing career.
These are the absolute basics! Playing the sport would require you
to know much more than that. However, regardless on whether you are an
amateur or a professional, do not let yourself get consumed by minding
too much on the rules, body structure or even scores.
